How we help


Advocacy:

  • John had been physically assaulted on a mental health ward. He needed the support of one of our independent Mental Health Advocates to rebuild physical and emotional safety.
  • Ali wanted to challenge the reasons why he was being detained on a mental health ward. Through the support of our Independent Mental Health Advocates, he built his confidence to instruct a solicitor and arrange a mental health tribunal.
  • Angela wasn’t getting the medicine she needed to reduce the symptoms of schizophrenia. She needed the support of one of our Independent Care Act Advocates to make sure her parents gave her the right medication.
  • Daniella was in her 80s and considered medically fit for discharge from hospital. However, because of her early-onset dementia, she was deemed to lack capacity to make decisions independently about her long-term care. With the support of our Independent Mental Capacity Advocate, she was able to move home safely and with all her care needs in place.

 

User Involvement:

  • James has a learning disability along with physical disabilities. He found communication barriers prevented him from equal access to health care. Our user involvement project was able to support him to get the help he needed personally, as well as share his experiences in order to improve local services for everyone.

 

Personal Health Budgets for Children and Young People

  • Tammy and Sayeed’s experience show how PHB funding for young people can make a real and tangible difference to mental and physical health as well as build confidence and raise aspirations for the future.

 

Autism Navigation Service

  • Sara, Tony and Nia worked with our Autism Spectrum Care Navigator to find appropriate support for their diagnosis needs. As you’ll see from their stories, having someone available to listen and provide them with information about their rights empowered them to self-advocate and created positive change in their lives.
